BRETT C. POWELL concentrates his practice in appellate advocacy and litigation/trial support. A native of Miami, Brett received his Bachelor of Arts degree from The Florida State University in 1990, and graduated cum laude from the University of Miami School of Law, where he was a Dean’s Merit Scholar and an intern with Federal Magistrate Judge William Turnoff.

While at the University of Miami School of Law, Brett served as an Academic Achievement Program Dean's Fellow, and was a Presenter at the University of Miami Evidence Symposium. Brett also served as a member of the University of Miami Law Review Editorial Board. Brett was Vice-President of the Moot Court Board where he received multiple honors, including the "Outstanding Member" award, the George Washington University National Security Law Competition "Best Oralist" award, and selection to the NACDL Trial Advocacy Team.

Brett is the author of "Perry Mason Meets the Legitimate Tendency Standard of Admissibility (and doesn't like what he sees)," published in 55 University of Miami Law Review, vol. 4, and has been acknowledged for his contributions by Kenneth W. Graham, Jr., 22 Wright & Miller’s Federal Practice & Procedure 5180.1. Brett has been quoted on legal matters in the Miami Daily Business Review, the Plastic Surgery Practice Advisory, and the South Florida Business Journal. In 2009, Brett was recognized as a "Top Up and Comer" by the South Florida Legal Guide in recognition of his achievements as an appellate and trial advocate.

Brett and his family live in Palmetto Bay, Florida, where Brett is on the Board of Directors at Westminster Christian School, and in Key Largo, Florida.

Brett is admitted to the Supreme Court of the United States, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Florida Bar. He is a member of Phi Delta Phi, the American Bar Association, the Dade County Bar Association, and the Miami Dade Justice Association.
